NORDIC LAW AND GENDER CONFERENCE 2023: PAST-PRESENT-FUTURE

25 - 27 October 2023 | School of Economics, Business and Law, University of Gothenburg

The 2023 conference on the theme ‘Past-Present-Future’ aims to engage with not only the present and future challenges of law and gender in the Nordics but also to make the histories and legacies of law and gender in the Nordics matter in this process. The conference brings together legal scholars and practicians working in the fields of law, gender, and feminism broadly conceived. It seeks to situate the legal developments in the different Nordic countries in the context of a rapidly changing transnational, legal, social, political and economic landscape. The overall aim is to provide a legal, theoretical and critical basis for debates about past, present and future transformations of Nordic law.

WEBINAR - THE PORTRAYAL OF ARCTIC INDIGENOUS PEOPLES IN MAINSTREAM CULTURE

The aim of this webinar is to discuss the stereotypes associated with Arctic Indigenous peoples - cruel hunting practices, primitive way of life, over-consumption of alcohol, etc. - and the extent to which they are harmful to these communities. It is also an opportunity to examine the roots of these stereotypes - is this either/or colonisation, lack of understanding, commercial and tourism purposes? - and thereafter give a more accurate representation of what the different Indigenous cultures are about. Gender Equality in the Arctic is an international collaborative Sustainable Development Working Group project focusing on gender equality in the Arctic

The purpose of this project is to promote an extensive, policy-relevant dialogue on issues of gender equality in the Arctic region in the context of current realities in terms of economic and social development as well as current and future challenges, inter alia relating to climatic and environmental changes.
