Session description: This presentation narrates the in-depth analysis of gender, violence and reconciliation, ensuring that each topic renders the realities in the Arctic. The presentation is well grounded in Inuit oral stories to tease out the binary perspective that for long centred the norm of developing national policies. To envision equality, the diversity of human sexuality is brought into light, applying the Arctic peoples’ imagination on how to appease the spirits and take on responsibilities as human actors. ‘Reconciliation’ is examined addressing the colonizer’s mindset on one-sided history of exclusion, and how dissimilar peoples relish diverse human realities.
